“Prison Watch” Public Association has started the implementation of the project ” Psychological support for young prisoners ” by the support of European Youth Foundation of Council of Europe. The project will last for a period of 3 months with the main objective of training young psychologists in the field of penitentiary and conducting psychological rehabilitation of young prisoners.
The project will be operational in two directions. Firstly, there will be special training courses in penitentiary psychology for 20 young psychologists. During these courses topics such as psychological portrait of prisoners and the characteristics features of prisoners, socio-psychological characteristics of prisoners, communications in penitentiary institutions, learning methods of individual psychological characteristics of the prisoners, planning the psycho diagnostics and correction process, social and psychological problems with the adaptation of the prisoners who are at end of their imprisonment to the conditions of freedom, and psychological work with the personnel who work with the prisoners will be taught to the psychologists.
As a second part of the project there will be psychological seminars for the wardens and prisoners in prisons. These seminars will be held in three stages. In each prison first there will be seminars for prisoners and then for the personnel of the prisons and in the final stage there will be conflict resolution group works both for employees and prisoners. At these seminars besides the professional psychologists in the field of penitentiary psychology, young psychologists who trained within the project will also participate. Conducting psychological seminars in penal institutions will be helpful in terms of psychological rehabilitation of the prisoners and young psychologists to obtain practical skills in the field of psychological work with the prisoners.
At the end of the project there will be a round table with the title of â€œÐ¡onducting the psychological work with the young prisonersâ€. During the round table issues with young prisoners’ rights to receive psychological aid and the results of the project will be discussed.
